Interband transitions
There is no restriction of the SCOUT software to the infrared spectral range, of course. The visible and the ultraviolet are covered as well, as is shown here by another silicon example. The strong electronic interband transitions in the UV (above 25000 1/cm) lead to broad 'gap features' in the UV reflectivity which can be modeled by extended harmonic oscillators ('Brendel oscillators') as shown in the next graph.
